Long story short: If supplied with three reference images, and a brief- Do not assume that the client expects artwork in the style that you create. Its entirely possible that the client will take your artwork as evidence of skill in and of itself and be quite surprised when you deliver your artwork that it isn’t the same as the samples you’ve been sent – and shock- it looks like your work.
If I had a contract, at this point he would have given me a 25% rejection fee, or carried on with the project and I’d have tried to match his requirements closer.
But instead I produced a second image,trying to bring it closer to his needs. And still nothing.
